Introduction
In this world of increasingly competitive markets, competition law exists to ensure fair and just trading.
National governments work hard to tackle anti-competitive activities such as price-fixing and impose tough financial penalties on companies that abuse their competitive power. In 2006 alone, the European Commission issued fines totalling €1.8 billion (£1.25 billion).
In the UK, organisations suspected of anti-competitive behaviour are visited by an investigation team which carries out a ‘dawn raid’. Being subjected to a dawn raid does not make you guilty, but it is important that your business understands the full implications of the investigation. Dawn Raids explains what the investigation involves and how your business should respond, helping you to prepare for the eventuality of a dawn raid.
Who is the course for?
This course is a practical guide for managers and legal teams in any company that could experience a dawn raid. Established and growing companies, including those expanding into international markets, may be particularly at risk.
Some prior knowledge of competition regulations and legislation is advisable but there are no formal entry requirements.
What will you get from this course?
When you have completed this course, you will be able to:
- competently handle the arrival of the investigation team
- know the procedures and practices you must follow at the start of the investigation
- deal with searches of offices and computers.
Course features
This well-presented course follows the story of a fictitious dawn raid. A series of interactive scenarios, exercises and questions build and check your learning. After each test you are given immediate feedback. A selection of resources, such as a Dawn Raids Checklist and a Dawn Raids Mandate, are also available for you to download and use within your own organisation.
At the end of the course, a short game tests what you have learned. You can repeat this as often as you wish.
You can start this online course straight away and work on it at any time, providing you have access to a computer with an internet connection. The course is available for six months from the date first accessed.
